Io non riesco a portarlo in posizione trailer, la leva laterale di sicurezza non riesco ad agganciarla, la calandra urta contro lo schienale del divanetto di poppa. Può dipendere da questo?

No, Anzi così puoi impostare la massima inclinazione trailer senza toccare lo schienale.
Ho trovato questo in rete:
Default trim range on this motor is -6 to 16 Degrees
Both can be altered.
SmartCraft Gauge trim Range scale is 0-10, tilt is 10-25
The SmartCraft Gauge Cal simply maps the 10 and 15 point scales to the actual trim and tilt Range of the Motor.
Enter trim cal on the Gauge.
trim the motor full in
Hit the set button to set that point to 0 on the gauge.
trim the motor to full trim (best way to find full trim yourself without computer is: on water, shift into gear, get RPM's up to 2500 or so, and trim full out till it stops -- this is ECU full trim, then slow to idle in neutral)
Hit the set button to set that point as full trim on the gauge.
Then tilt the motor as high as you want the 25 spot to be (could be full up, or as high as you care between full trim and full tilt)
Set that point as the full tilt position.

Effettivamente
Nel manuale (pagina 31 in italiano del mercury 100 , 51 in Inglese) . In pratica se si va oltre i 2000 giri (anche se il motore pesca l'acqua ) a motore troppo alto, il sistema lo abbassa automaticamente come forma di protezione.

When operating your boat in shallow water, you can tilt the outboard beyond
the maximum trim range to prevent hitting bottom.
1. Reduce the engine speed below 2000 RPM.
2. tilt the outboard up. Make sure all the water intake holes stay submerged
at all times.
3. Operate the engine at slow speed only. If engine speed exceeds 2000
RPM, the outboard will automatically return down to the maximum trim
range.

Con quel trucco trovi il massimo trim che si può impostare e lo memorizzi.
Onestamente non mi convince. Preferisco settare lo zero, fissare il trim che mi fa stare il piede sotto acqua e poi il massimo tilt. Poi vedo mettendo la pinna parallela alla chiglia che valore indica sullo strumento e quello è una indicazione di massima, per il resto non serve a molto l'indicatore.
